This project brought my scientific fieldwork and illustration practice together. As a technician in Dr. Tracey Tuberville’s lab, I helped with spotted turtle field research and created a graphical abstract to tell the story of the study. The illustration connects environmental stressors with the turtles’ demographic, behavioral, and physiological responses, bringing the field and laboratory work into one visual overview. Based at the University of Georgia’s Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, the research is funded by the Department of Defense’s Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP).

In 2021, I worked as an illustrator for Memoria Press, creating original drawings for their phonics textbooks. These line illustrations pair familiar objects, animals, and everyday actions with the words young readers are learning.

A little curiosity goes a long way.
The artist behind the work
An artist and wildlife biologist with a close eye for the natural world.
I’ve been making artwork privately alongside my studies and professional work, developing a personal practice in watercolor, colored pencil, and pen and ink. My subjects range from wildlife and botanical studies to pet portraits, landscapes, and the places people call home.
My studies in Wildlife & Conservation Biology at Murray State University and my fieldwork at the University of Georgia’s Savannah River Ecology Laboratory have deepened my connection to the animals and habitats I draw. That experience informs my artwork, bringing a naturalist’s perspective to both personal pieces and scientific illustration.
Art and science both ask me to look closely. Scientific illustration and collaborative design give me another way to share that attention—through an animal’s markings, a research idea, or an image made for a wider audience.
